Reflection and refraction techniques are employed extensively for water resources and engineering applications.
COWI employs these techniques to satisfy the following objectives:
- Mapping subsurface stratigraphy
- Locating buried valleys
- Mapping fault structures
- Mapping continuity of key sedimentary layers
Landstreamer
A flexible land-based pulled-array seismic concept has been developed by combining state-of-the-art components with highly experienced personnel. A Minibuggy vehicle containing a 54 kN vibration source pulls a 200 meter long array of geophones along a paved surface.
Compared with traditional hand-laid seismic surveys the technique combines lower costs with significantly greater production rates. The advanced equipment and operational setup is tailored to produce high-resolution data that is optimal for environmental and water resources investigations. A number of intelligent field solutions are available.
Traditional seismics
We also employ traditional hand-laid seismic surveys. This technique is ideal in situations of difficult terrain or where the subsurface conditions warrant it. Depending on the situation we employ a vibrator, shotgun or explosives as the impulse source.
