The status on COWI's work mid-2007 is described with focus on the supervision of the on-going earthworks and marine works.
A satellite image of the entire site is available for every month to follow the progress of the construction works. The latest image and selected photos from the construction site can be found in the Image Gallery. The supervision team consist of 20 site engineers and inspectors.
The Contractor has constructed bunds (dikes) at the periphery towards the sea around the construction areas. Upon dewatering of the bunded areas the excavation works and construction of edge treatment structures can be made in the dry. The exaction works are made using earth moving equipment, rock hammers and in some areas also dry-blasting.
The edge treatment structures consist of revetments and block walls. The construction of revetments is in progress using imported rocks for the armour layer. The production of concrete blocks for the vertical block walls is made at a pre-cast yard located on site. The blocks are stacked on a rock foundation using a crane. The first sections of edge treatment structures have been handed over to the Client.
EH&S is a key issue for the construction works and is an integrated part of all supervision activities. The Contractor has to date used 3,188,000 man-hours on the project without any major accidents.
The design of seven standard marine bridges has been completed and the design of two iconic marine bridges is in progress.
The design of three marinas has been completed with a total of 1297 boats. The berthing facilities will be pontoons equipped with modern utilities.
