Environmental policy and regulation

As a result of the increasing strain on our planet’s resources and the growth in population environmental policies and regulation play an increasingly important role in modern society.
Government authorities are constantly working on new legislation and legislative instruments to protect the environment through the prevention of pollution or reduction of environmental impacts. Initiatives include national legislation, EU-wide directives and global conventions.

COWI covers the entire scope of environmental politics and regulation, and we help our clients form a solid decision basis, be they private enterprises or public authorities.

Structural reform

The Danish structural reform of government means that a number of environmental tasks previously undertaken at regional level are now being transferred to the new local authorities.

To undertake their new tasks they need to acquire expertise and extensive technical knowledge of environmental regulation. COWI is already working closely with many of the new local authorities.

Services

We offer services such as environmental economic analyses, cost-benefit analyses, impact analyses, environmental action plans, consultancy on environmental regulation and insight into green taxes and charges. In the area of climate change we have profound experience of flexible mechanisms, such as Joint Implementation and Clean Development Mechanisms.
