Environmental assistance

The Millennium Development Goals confer environmental responsibilities on us all.
In response, COWI offers services for environmental assistance in a development context.
Environmental problems know no boundaries. The biophysical environment - water, air, forests, grasslands, marine and agro-ecosystems - are the building blocks of a better life for everyone.

COWI works to support sustainable development based on sound social, environmental and economic principles.

We offer a holistic approach with services for capacity building of partner institutions, consultation and dialogue, enabling of responsive, well functioning institutions, and the inclusion of gender and equity issues.

 COWI works in:

  • natural resource management
  • decentralised environmental management
  • environmental protection
  • environmental analyses and studies
COWI provides technical assistance in the natural resources sector, including protected area management, soil and water management, health and safety management, biodiversity monitoring and management, sustainable forest management, including chains of custody and certification, and watershed management.

We assist social development through community participation, ecotourism development, education and community-based natural resource management.

Experience in institutional development of the environment

COWI works in partnership with governments and authorities to support decentralised environmental management.

We support institutions and civil society organisations to build capacities in environmental assessment, management and regulation, through institutional development and ‘mainstreaming’.

We therefore offer services in programme and project identification, formulation and appraisal, reviews, evaluations and implementation.
