Mechanical and electrical installations for metros

COWI provides optimum design solutions of electrical and mechanical installations and coherence in complex metro projects by early integration.

A metro project includes the comprehensive design and implementation of electrical and mechanical installations in tunnels and stations in order to ensure the safety and availability of the metro infrastructure.

The project undergoes a lengthy process and requires extensive management, especially in issues related to safety. COWI masters this process and its inherent risks on the basis of many years of managerial and technical experience.

Integrating electrical and mechanical solutions from the outset

Since electrical and mechanical installations often make up a substantial part of the expenses, we put emphasis on integrating the solutions for these installations early in the course of the project. This enables us to create an optimal design solution and ensure coherence between the different elements of very complex metro projects.

Our experience in the field of electrical and mechanical installations for metros includes:

  • Tunnel ventilation, comfort ventilation in passenger areas, ventilation and cooling in technical rooms
  • Tunnel, ramp and station drainage
  • Normal and emergency electric power supply, lighting
  • Systems for communication, monitoring and control, including control centre facilities
  • Escape routes and escape doors
  • Systems for fire detection, fire ventilation and fire fighting
  • Elevators and escalators.
