Kyoto mechanisms against climate changes

Meeting the environmental targets of the Kyoto protocol requires the introduction of clean development mechanisms and Joint Implementation. COWI assist in CDM and JI projects.

Climate change has been identified as the biggest environmental challenge facing the global community. It affects both public and private-sector players.

The international and national responses through the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Kyoto Protocol have political, economic, financial and institutional implications. We can help our clients meet this challenge.

Policy and planning

COWI staff possesses deep insight into the political processes in relation to the UNFCCC and the Kyoto Protocol. We are performing analyses for governments of the implications of the outcome of the international negotiations.

We are also helping them design and assess policies and measures and the related institutional set-up. We have extensive experience of policies and planning regarding the promotion of energy efficiency.

Project identification, design and financing

We have in-house technical expertise relevant to JI and CDM projects. Therefore we can assist in the identification, design, structuring and appraisal of JI and CDM projects.

We handle the project development, screening of projects, project design documents (PDD), baseline studies, the monitoring of implementation plans, environmental assessments, agreements and contracts and financial analyses and structuring.

Capacity building and institutional development

New institutions are developing rapidly, and existing ones are changing to accommodate the challenges that are a consequence of decisions on climate change.

We have experience of the development of institutions and organizations and human resources to support organizations involved in this process, and we actively support our clients regarding design and implementation measures.
