Water and wastewater: Safety and health

COWI applies the newest methods for qualitative and quantitative risk assessment of safety and health within water supply and collection and treatment of wastewater.

A stable drinking water supply and safe handling of wastewater are essential in modern society. Malfunction of systems for the transport of water results in heavy public expenses in the form of loss of production and poor public health standards.

Hardcore technique and softer disciplines

Analysis of safety and health primarily involves three types of analysis:

  • Risk analysis of technical installations
  • Assessment of working environment and protective measures
  • Risk assessment of chemicals and micro-organisms

Risk assessment of technical plants

COWI has more than 25 years of experience in the risk analysis of technical installations. In cooperation with the client clear objectives are set up for operational reliability and acceptable risks for humans and the environment.

Working environment

Handling of all types of water, especially wastewater, implies health risks. COWI assists in assessing possible initiatives to ensure a good working environment.

Risk assessment of chemicals and micro-organisms

Risk assessment requires good interdisciplinary cooperation between microbiologists, statisticians, engineers and medical staff. COWI has a long standing tradition for involving many discipline leaders, thus creating a strong and efficient working team and use the newly developed guidelines from WHO.
