At COWI, you work on projects together with your superiors.

I joined COWI for a short internship right before starting work on my Master’s. I had just got really hooked on road-structure technology and through my studies I met a renowned expert within the field who worked at COWI. I contacted him directly and from the beginning he was very interested in getting me on board and teaching me what he knew.

What was extremely appealing to me was the fact that COWI employs a lot of specialists and experts and that they are willing to take young engineers like us under their wings.

Here you work on projects together with your superiors. The philosophy is: “This is what we know, learn it!” It took me almost two years to get up to speed, but now I have reached a level where I feel comfortable working alongside the experts. I would never have come remotely close if they hadn’t passed on their knowledge to me.

Right after I was hired, I was assigned a project in Africa, which gave me fuel for my graduate project.

From the beginning, I was given a lot of responsibility, which is one of the main reasons why I enjoy working for COWI. Actually, I got to work on an airport project in Norway as a lead engineer at an early point in my career. This is not an opportunity that I would have been given elsewhere, but at COWI you can get opportunities like this. You just have to take the initiative.

One of the things that I find most exciting and challenging about my work is that you have to learn a lot of new things about your own field while understanding other fields as well, because your work must fit into a larger context.

What differentiates COWI from others is the desire to constantly improve. COWI strives to be among the best in the world and in order to do that, it has to hire the best employees. In my own case, COWI was a professional step forward. As a company, it sets the agenda for the development of our own organisation, the industry and the societies where it works.

COWI always does things thoroughly, and the people who work here have a high degree of professional pride. I tend to want to work a bit too fast sometimes, but when I do there’s always someone to slow me down and make sure I get my work done properly.
