COWI performs energy audit and analysis in a paper factory in Poland

In March 2002, COWI will initiate a project in co-operation with COWI Polska and external experts from the Technical University of Warsaw (PEPRC) in Myszków in Poland.
The project is part of Danish financial funding to support the Polish municipalities in their obligations according to the Energy Act of 1997, which makes local energy planning obligatory. The budget is DKK 2,5 mill. and the project is financed by the sector integrated environmental assistance under the Danish Energy Agency.

The project is an offshoot of a former COWI project financed by the sector integrated environmental assistance, in which energy planning in Poland at municipal level was investigated.

The project consists of 3 major elements:

  • A detailed energy audit of the paper factory in order to investigate the possibilities of optimisation of the paper production, including the possibilities of a more energy efficient electricity and heat production
  • Analysis of the possibilities of increasing the heat supply from the paper factory as much as possible, covering up to 90-95% of the district heating demand in Myszków
  • Analysis of the possibilities of increasing the CHP-production, i.e. with installation of an additional turbine.
