Denmark gets Europe’s most modern mill

Cerealia builds state-of-the-art mill in Vejle. And COWI is the Main Consultant for this project, where innovative solutions are implemented to achieve the highest standard for product quality.
Europe’s most modern mill is scheduled for completion in three years time. Building close to Vejle Harbour, food manufacturer Cerealia Danmark A/S is investing DKK 400 million in the mill, which will be the hub of the organisation’s flour and grain production.

This is the first new mill to be built in Denmark in modern times and it will be connected to the existing one in Vejle.

The new technology will allow the company to meet increasing demands on hygiene and traceability. The mill will produce 250,000 tons of flour per year for the Danish market.

Optimal location

In a recent press release, Erik W. Knudsen, General Manager of Cerealia Danmark explains: "Logistics are a vital parameter when making such a major investment. Vejle is conveniently located in relation to our bread industry customers and the bakers of Jutland and Funen. And its close proximity to the harbour is advantageous in terms of distribution potential. With rising oil prices and road taxes, sea transport is becoming a more competitive alternative".

As the Main Consultant for the project, COWI assumed responsibility quite early on for the building and installations and for the processing equipment.

COWI will continue to have an ongoing involvement, managing all aspects of the project , and supervising all contracts in the implementation phase, until the mill is completed in 2008.
