Prior to the climate summit in Copenhagen in December 2009, climate and energy researchers from all over the world will gather to discuss climate changes at a climate congress in Copenhagen in March 2009. COWI is one of a number of major sponsors supporting the event.
"We are sponsoring this event to showcase the many climate-related services that we offer, and to illustrate the spectrum of our consultancy expertise on anything from environmental issues to energy and infrastructure projects," says Lars-Peter Søbye, Executive Vice President, Denmark.
"Rather than sponsoring several events, we have chosen to profile ourselves at a single location. It makes sense for us to be active on the research side of things, where researchers meet, rather than in the political arena of the climate summit."
The University of Copenhagen has taken the initiative to gather some of the world's leading scientists to present the latest advances in research, well ahead of the crucial climate summit.
At the climate congress, researchers will attempt to answer questions on how, and to what degree CO2 emissions, can be reduced; how technology can contribute in the form of alternative energy sources; and how people can be encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint.
In respect of the demand for our traditional, climate-related services, such as engineering, environmental science and economics, almost all of COWI's departments are currently experiencing that customers have a particular focus on the effects of climate change and its consequences. Projects can take the form of new sewage systems, sustainable energy and housing.
