Mexican refineries set on energy optimisation

COWI has been tasked with assisting two Mexican refineries in optimising their energy consumption. The goal is to reduce their environmental impact and cut costs by achieving environmental certification.

Right now, the planning and production are being inspected on the two refineries in Veracruz and Tula, Mexico. This will result in an action plan and suggestions for necessary energy optimisation measures to be carried out at the two facilities. During the course of the project, the refineries will be equipped with the tools needed to develop their facilities into greener, more energy-efficient refineries.

COWI acts as technical expert on the project along with the Danish energy authorities.

"This is a very exciting project, and it's particularly cool that we've brought COWI's expert knowledge and skills across the Atlantic," says Stefan Nyh, Project Manager at COWI.

The refineries are owned by PEMEX (Petróleos Mexicanos), a petroleum and natural gas company controlled by the Mexican government, which produces some 2.5 million m³ of petroleum and six million m³ of natural gas every day.
