COWI acquires shares in Aquateam

The acquisition of Norwegian Aquateam strengthens COWI's position within the water and environmental sectors and provides COWI with access to new markets.

On 1st August 2013, COWI acquired all shares in Aquateam - Norwegian Water Technology Centre AS. The company has now changed name to Aquateam COWI AS. It will operate as a fully owned COWI subsidiary and continue to be headed by co-founder Eilen A. Vik who has been with the company since it was established in 1984. Aquateam has 27 employees and a strong brand in applied scientific research and consulting related to the water and environmental sectors.

Increased focus on the petroleum industry

Egil Bøckmann, Senior Vice President of COWI Norway’s Water division, expects many new opportunities with Aquateam’s employees on board:

“In addition to strengthening our competences in water, wastewater and environment, Aquateam will give us access to new markets, in particular within the petroleum industry where Aquateam has extensive experience in advising customers on topics related to chemicals, environmental risks and water treatment. They have a large national and international network of industrial customers” he says.

COWI and Aquateam - a good match

Aquateam’s Managing Director, Eilen A. Vik, is optimistic about the future:

“We want to be part of a larger organisation in order for us to take advantage of the opportunities in the market and offer our employees new development opportunities. COWI’s professional organisation and management, competences and capacity, are spot on.”

COWI Norway’s CEO, Terje Byland Nikolaisen, is very satisfied:

“This is a new acquisition in line with our growth strategy where we will strengthen our competences and capacity in existing segments and have the opportunity to develop new services.”
