COWI continues to grow within tissue plants for the production of tissue paper. In recent years, a number of projects have been implemented involving construction and expansion of mills throughout the world. Now COWI has been commissioned by Valmet to design a new tissue plant in the Middle East.

The global demand for tissue for producing toilet paper, kitchen towel and paper napkins is increasing and therefore there is a need for more plants. In recent years, COWI has designed a large number of tissue plants in locations including Morocco, Chile, the UK, Russia and Turkey. This new commission comes from Valmet (formerly Metso Paper Sweden AB), a global specialist that provides turnkey tissue plants for all the world’s paper manufacturers.

The design work will be managed from Karlstad, where both Valmet and COWI have large project organisations and strong expertise in the forestry industry.

“We are very pleased that Valmet have once again entrusted us with the task of designing a tissue plant. We have enjoyed a long and successful partnership and we now look forward to the next plant taking shape,” says Uno Olsson, Forestry Marketing Manager at COWI.

The design process for the new facility began in late February, with work taking place in both Karlstad and Qatar, and during the installation phase COWI will have consultants located on site. This is a large project involving several of COWI’s market areas and employing a team of around 10 consultants from COWI.

Construction is planned to begin in late 2014 and is scheduled for completion by mid 2015.
