The House of the Danish Industry Foundation, will be located outside Beijing as part of the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS).
When the house opens to the first Danish and Chinese researchers and students in 2013, most of SDC's activities will take place in the new four storey house.
The key objective is to establish a bridgehead in Beijing that will give researchers, students, and particularly the Danish business world easier access to the swiftly developing Chinese research world.
Low energy building
Apart from 300 postgraduate students, 75 PhD students and 100 researchers from the Denmark and China, Danish companies can host business events in the building.
The building will include teaching facilities, lecture hall, research facilities, administration, canteen etc. The top level includes 20 residences surrounding an open roof garden. The building also includes basement levels for primarily mechanical and electrical services.
The building will be constructed with the greatest possible emphasis on environmentally friendly solutions that comply with the Danish requirements to low energy building class 2015. This implies significantly lower energy consumption than comparable traditional buildings in Beijing.
COWIs services
COWI is providing a wide range of services on the project ranging from design management to installations and fire safety.
Subsequent to handing over the preliminary design to a local design institute, COWI performs project follow-up, design review and site supervision, a joint effort between COWI Denmark and COWI Beijing.
The Inception Report was prepared in cooperation with stakeholders and end-users from five Danish universities. Turner and Townsend (Beijing) was sub-consulted as quantity surveyor / cost consultant.
The eight Danish universities and the Ministry of Science are behind the new house. The Danish Industry Foundation has financed the building.
