COWI works with crisis management and conflict prevention by providing expert input to the development of an outline programme.
COWI plays the leading role in the design of Danida's DKK 248 million Africa Programme for Peace, which supports the principal African regional and sub-regional organisations with mandates in the peace and security area.

Capacity building for conflict prevention

The organisations concerned are the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States, the Southern African Development Community, and the Intergovernmental Organisation for Development. The Africa Programme for Peace is designed to encourage the early realisation of the organisations' own plans in the area of peace and security and has a particular focus on building African capacity, including civil society, in conflict prevention and management.

Assist programme start-up

The present project, which runs from January to October 2005, concerns the provision of process consultancy to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the organisations concerned to assist the start-up of the programme. The project involves close contact with Danish and foreign stakeholders, in situ support and facilitation, and the elaboration of process action plans, management, and monitoring systems.
