Strategic masterplan for sewerage and wastewater treatment in Southern Morava, Serbia

COWI has prepared a sewerage and wastewater treatment master plan for the south-eastern part of Serbia. Our contract also included the preparation of a detailed design for a model wastewater treatment plant.

Serbia is in great need of improved wastewater services and has embarked on a large wastewater master planning exercise for Southern Morava. The region covers about 12,000 km2 and has a population of about 1 million living in 25 different municipalities.

COWI's services

COWI's services included:

  • Baseline studies - legislation, asset inventory, environmental situation, household surveys
  • GIS and database establishment
  • Development planning - land use, population and water demands, tariff study
  • Preparation of a planning design manual
  • Master planning - including priority ranking of investments within affordable levels
  • Detailed project preparation, including preliminary and conceptual designs of master plan investments
  • Planning, design and preparation of tender documents (FIDIC Red Book) for model wastewater treatment plant in capacity 37,000 p.e.

The estimated construction cost for implementing the master plan is about EUR 500 million.

Funding

The project was funded by the European Union and carried out in a consortium with Witteveen+Boss with COWI as lead partner. Local subconsultants also participated - among these COWI Belagrade d.o.o.
