Gigantium - new ice skating arena, Denmark

The city of Aalborg in Northern Jutland has buildt a new ice skating arena in connection with the existing sports arena known as Gigantium. COWI was engineering consultant on the project.

The new arena has a capacity of 5,000 spectators. Covering an area of 12,000 m2 the arena has both a main rink and a training rink which can be used for ice hockey, curling and ice dancing.

A centre for sports and culture

To maximise the positive effects of the new arena it has been built in connection with the existing sports arena, Gigantium. In doing so the new arena completes the sports ground and strengthens Gigantium as Northern Jutland's centre for sports and culture.

COWI was engineering consultant on the project and as such responsible for among other things cooling, ventilation, fire safety and acoustics.

The new arena was ready for use in the spring of 2007.
