Egaa High School, Denmark

The new high school in Egaa, a suburb in the city of Aarhus, has been called "the high school of the future" and this is not just an empty phrase. The high school is state-of-the-art.

Through the use of Intelligent Building Installations and common data communication systems the scene is laid for a high school in keeping with the wishes of Aarhus County, that it should be flexible, multifunctional, innovative and creative.

This means for example that the technical services are designed with a view to using data for electricity and water consumption in the learning process. Mechanical and electrical rooms are therefore designed to be accessible for the pupils in connection with classes.

A safe solution

COWI is also responsible for the fire safety engineering of the high school. To this end we have used performance based fire safety in order to create a building, which provides surprising spatial experiences without compromising safety requirements.

The construction of the 15,000 m2 high school started in the autumn of 2004, and the high school inauguration took place in the summer of 2006. Capacity is for 24 classes, corresponding to approx. 650 pupils.
