Decommissioning of BP tank farm

Decommissioning of BP’s import installations and storage tanks in the Port of Copenhagen.

The project comprised demolition and removal of the following parts:

  • tanks (conventional steel tanks)
  • piping, power installations, pumps, instruments etc.
  • pipeline on pier
  • loading arms
  • foundations
  • re-instatement of area.

Before decommissioning, the plant had been used to store inflammable fluids, class III. Therefore, the pollution risk and danger of explosion had to be foreseen during planning and execution.

The demolition work was planned to avoid any consequential damage on adjacent buildings and to allow traffic to and from the buildings without any inconvenience during the demolition period.

Drawings of buried construction parts and pipelines were prepared as part of the tender material.

The project duration was 6 months from tendering to handing-over.
