The terminal is situated in the Neva Bay, inside the great flood barrier. It will have a 1 km container quay. The further transport of the containers will be handled by railroad and trucks. The terminal will handle 1.000.000 TEU annually, which will make it one of Russia's largest and most important import terminals for container transport.
The main environmental interests are connected to fish and fisheries as well as to migratory birds. The location close to a city implies a potential impact on residents and historic buildings.
