WEBGIS portal for the regional municipality of Bornholm
COWI has developed a WEBGIS portal for the Regional Municipality of Bornholm, giving citizens and companies access to geographical information and digital maps of Bornholm.
As the five municipalities of Bornholm were to be combined to one regional municipality, Bornholm County at the time established a GIS coordination group to formulate a strategy for building up GIS competencies in the most appropriate way across the old disciplinary and municipal boundaries.
WEBGIS solution builds on MapXtreme
The WEBGIS solution is based on MapInfo’s Internet platform, MapXtreme, and serves both as an internal and external map solution, where employees have access to maps and confidential map-related information, but where also tourists, companies, real estate agents, farmers and citizens in Bornholm can search for information related to a geographic location in the island.
The administrative employees have thus direct access to the Property and Environmental Database, which ordinary citizens do not have, as the database contains sensitive data. By means of the administrative module, the regional municipality can segment the information certain groups of users are supposed to see.
MapInfo site licence
The GIS coordination group decided also to invest in a so-called site licence for MapInfo - a GIS platform that COWI already had implemented in three of the five old municipalities. The employees had therefore gained specialist expertise on this platform, which was a prerequisite for getting off to a good start.
