More muscle-power to the Kazakhstan Senate
The objective of the EC project was to support Kazakhstan’s reform efforts. The aim was to transform the country into a modern state, based on market-economy principles and strict compliance with the rules of law. At the same time, the goal was to strengthen the Senate's capacity in drafting laws and making policies in accordance with best-practice principles from Europe.
Understanding Europe
Analysis, seminars, study tours and meetings were held throughout Kazakhstan. The goal was to strengthen staff members' and Senators' understanding of different European economic and social structures, to improve the general law-drafting and policy-making skills of the Senate, and to give the Senate a basic knowledge of the European institutions.
Support to the Senate
The team supported the Senate’s work on the new labour code and on a law on self-governance. Training seminars in drafting techniques were also held. A discussion was initialised on how to strengthen the position of the Senate in the future political system in Kazakhstan. The project ran for 12 months.
