M&E systems for the Oresund Bridge 

The Oresund Bridge carries a two-lane motorway and a two-track railway between Denmark and Sweden. It comprises a 1.2 km long cable-stayed high bridge and two approach bridges. Total length of the bridge is 7.8 km. The bridge was built by Sundlink Contractors.

COWI has provided the following consulting services for the contractor related to electrical and mechanical systems:

  • Design of the installations
  • Elaboration of tender documents for subcontracting the systems
  • Coordination of the mechanical and electrical installations with construction works
  • Maintenance of the internal and external interfaces for all design groups working with the detailed design of the bridge.

The electrical and mechanical systems include the following:

  • Electric power supply, high and low voltage
  • Secured power supply (UPS)
  • Earthing and lightning protection
  • Cable routes
  • Lighting for road and railway traffic
  • Illumination of structures, marking for sea and air traffic
  • SCADA system for bridge
  • Construction monitoring system
  • Corrosion monitoring
  • Fire detection system
  • Access hoists in pylons
  • Hydraulic buffers for control of longitudinal movements
  • Fire riser system
  • Fire extinguishing systems
  • Cooling for electrical equipment
  • Dehumidification plants in the steel box girders
  • Inspection gantries.
