In recent years, COWI has used terrestrial laser scanning as a platform for registration of 3D data of complicated constructions such as industrial plants, bridges and buildings.
Terrestrial laser scanning is an effective scanning technology where even very complicated constructions can be captured in 3D with great accuracy and large data sets can be collected in very short time. A scanning results in a 3D point cloud, describing the scanned objects and constructions in 3D.
Advantages3D terrestrial laser scanning offers significant advantages with respect to economy, time and quality within a wide range of engineering activities. The data is georeferenced and accurate and can be modelled into 3D CAD models for clearence check, tie in identification and much more. 3D point cloud data can also be published in a TruView model together with 360 degree panoramic images for a strong visual reproduction.
Mobile scanningThe terrestrial scanners can be mounted on cars or other vehicles, providing optimum conditions for mobile scanning. Hence, 3D data of a high accuracy can be collected efficiently for purposes like road planning, creation of a DTM, etc.
