Architectural and building acoustics

Today new materials are being used in modern architecture to create challenging new artistic designs. With the interior of buildings becoming ever more flexible with complicated geometrical forms, greater demands are being placed on the acoustical design of buildings.

National building regulations and guidelines set the minimum requirements for new buildings although often a better quality of acoustics is both possible and desirable.

Room acoustics

COWI provides consultancy services for room acoustics, ensuring a good acoustical environment in a room and within the building as a whole.

Building acoustics

We also offer consultancy services for building acoustics and ensure good sound insulation between rooms and in respect of unwanted external noise such as road traffic noise.

Advanced methods and equipment

COWI has considerable expertise in the field of architectural acoustics. We apply the latest and most advanced methods and equipment where innovative solutions are required.

Many new buildings cannot be designed using conventional building practise alone. In these instances we use software simulation programmes such as ODEON and Bastian that can draw on our extensive database of structural parts and joints.
