Standard configuration
High-resolution shallow to moderately deep seismic investigations are employed through the use of the Geometrics® geode distributed acquisition system. The standard setup consists of the minibuggy Minivib II dragging a 200 metre long land streamer on either paved road or relatively levelled dirt road. The vibrator mass is attached to the center of the vehicle and controlled by a computer within the cab.
The seismic source is the self-contained vibrator Minivib II produced by IVI. The applied energy force ranging from 27 kN to 54 kN and output bandwidth of 10-300 Hz provides a flexible capability to investigate varied geological situations.
Operation
The system requires only two personnel to operate. A qualified operator runs the Minibuggy, vibrator and seismic acquisition system. A field assistant ensures the cable is in the optimal configuration during operation.
The dragged land streamer configuration is constructed for cost-effective investigations on paved roads where easy access and long straight sections facilitate high daily production rates. Production rates vary according to local conditions, however, average rates are two kilometres per day.
