Marine terminals serve many purposes. The main objectives are swift import/export of products or commodities (bulk, RO-RO and container terminals) and transshipment of passengers (ferry and cruise terminals).

Easy access and fast turnaround time are essential for marine terminals.

COWI has provided services regarding planning and design of such terminals worldwide. We take into consideration the specific needs of the terminal owner with due attention to the shipping requirements.

COWI has developed cost effective "open terminal" concepts, where the met-ocean conditions are amenable, and the situation allows for moderate downtime. In other cases "protected terminal" solutions have been engineered to secure 24/7 operation.

Apart from marine engineering services, COWI offers specialist services such as:

  • Terminal layout and planning
  • Met-ocean studies
  • Navigation simulations
  • Berth geometry
  • Dynamic mooring analysis.

COWI will take the project from the early planning stages through concept design to EPC tendering and eventually construction management and supervision.

No role in the project implementation is too small or too large for COWI support. Our main aim is to create value for our customers.
