The objective is that the patient and his or her family can get comfort and relief during the patient's last days so that the patient's life ends in a dignified way.
At the same time, we focus on the staff which requires a well-functioning work environment that supports and stimulates the task of providing a personal and often demanding service. It is important to maintain a highly professional standard and at the same time to avoid stress which may result in staff members who are worn out.
Improved quality
When we advise on building hospices, we use WHO's definition of palliative care which stresses the need for total and active relieving care for patients with advanced illness. The physical settings must support the need for pain control and symptom control but also relieve psychological, social and spiritual problems. The aim is to obtain the best possible quality for the patient and his or her family.
The most recent knowledge
COWI's experience with interdisciplinary building processes gives us a head start when working with hospice projects which require an intensive and creative collaboration between the client, the architect and the consultant. We follow the development in the hospice area both in Denmark and abroad, and therefore our knowledge is up-to-date. We take advantage of this knowledge to create even better hospices.
