Private sector development

A vibrant private sector is central to employment and economic progress. To enhance poverty reduction and participation in globalisation, COWI offers services in private sector development.

Sector programmes and support for business organisations

Development assistance is presently shifting from the promotion of north-south business partnerships towards sector programmes with the objective of creating an enabling environment for local private enterprise. COWI supports a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening the private sector at central, regional and local levels, including direct support to private sector organisations to enhance competitiveness. We offer services in private sector advocacy, support to organisational capacity building, small and medium-sized enterprise development, business development services, financing and financial services development.

Public-private partnership

With the transition in the role of government from service provider to facilitator and enabler of service-delivery, the private sector assumes a new importance in providing for the population in developing countries. Creating an enabling environment for public-private partnerships (PPP) is a key instrument in cost-effective and efficient provision of basic services. COWI has experience in fostering partnerships between the public and the private sector, and in advising on necessary legal and policy frameworks. Our services include:
  • Policy and legal assistance
  • Partnership building
  • Capacity building of public and private sector institutions
  • Contract and tender management.
