Rural livelihoods

In pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals and poverty reduction, COWI offers services towards improved rural livelihoods.
COWI supports the development of decentralised and participatory systems that enhance rural livelihoods and contribute to a reduction in poverty and sustainable development.
Our experience in rural livelihood includes micro-credit organisations, land conflict resolution, community-based natural resources management, private sector development, and marketing of agricultural and forest products.

Capacity building for private sector development

COWI provides technical assistance and process-consulting in community development approaches to enhance private sector business development in rural areas, supporting agricultural marketing and micro-credit organisations, as well as food security. We strengthen documentation systems for control and management of timber and agricultural product export and marketing. Our core services include sector policy development, feasibility studies and capacity building of extension institutions and staff.

Community Development in Decentralisation and Democratisation

COWI’s community development approach recognises that work with rural communities must be part of the wider process of decentralisation and public sector reform. We offer services in advocacy and capacity building, to enhance the development of decentralised administration and institutions.
