Water sector development

Access to water is a key challenge according to the Millennium Development Goals. COWI offers services that enhance access to sustainable water and sanitation.

Sustainable solutions in the water sector

For the past three decades, COWI has been extensively engaged in the water sector in the developing world and has provided consulting services to meet the challenges of the sector. COWI works in water governance, water resources and water management, and we have been responsive to the lessons learnt from three decades of water sector development. We have continuously adjusted our strategies, approaches and perspectives and offer core competencies in sector-wide approaches; development and implementation of programme components and projects; socio-economic, institutional, legal and technical studies; as well as institutional development, capacity building and training; and performance monitoring and evaluation. COWI seeks financially-robust water sector development and offers affordability analysis and willingness-to-pay assessments.

A holistic approach based on 30 years' experience

Thirty years’ experience in water sector programmes, water supply and sanitation has led to COWI's holistic approach to water sector development. COWI has been active in the water sector development in more than 50 countries throughout the world, and engages a broad focus encompassing technical and engineering aspects, as well as sociology, anthropology, health, economy, operations management, and institutional and human resources.
