GIS-/IT analyses
COWI’s approach to an analysis project is often based on implementation of a GIS analysis if we estimate that the geographical overview gives value to the customer.
The use of a geographical component in connection with company analyses often provides a better basis for decision, as the decision-makers get a good overview when data are linked to the geographical presentation.
The geographical overview
GIS analyses help companies improve their results. The task may be to find the right location of a retail store in relation to predefined target groups or to map a number of demographic data to give an overview before implementation of marketing campaigns.
COWI has carried out many projects and small consulting assignments where geography has provided overview of data. Examples are:
Calculation of the geographic location of transmitter masts for mobile phones to obtain maximum coverage, taking into account the contour lines of the landscape, etc.
Analysis of logistical problems like the geographic location of store and production facilities, layout of production lines, decision on mode of transport between the localities of the company and the end user and if the transport is to be based on own or external conveyors.
In these contexts, our own developed IT solutions and map databases are often used for simulations to test and evaluate different scenarios.
