Remote sensing

Remote sensing from satellites makes it possible to monitor the environment and estimate vegetation.
COWI can produce and process satellite data from some of the leading suppliers in the world, Space Imaging (Ikonos) and Satellus (Landsat, Spot, etc.).

We produce anything from terrain models (DTM) to orthophotos and data based on classification of satellite images.

Data collection

Through remote sensing from satellites, COWI collects data by registering the electromagnetic radiation that is reflected or emitted from the objects we investigate.

Besides the visible light, electromagnetic radiation includes ultraviolet and infra-red light, heat and radio waves.

Use of satellite data

Satellite data can be used for a wide range of different tasks, including:
  • Thematic and thermal mapping
  • Monitoring environment
  • Estimating vegetation
  • Measuring vegetation health
