Urban and regional development
COWI assists authorities in Eastern Europe, Denmark and elsewhere in the preparation of regional development plans. Our assistance encompasses the entire plan development process, including quantitative and qualitative analyses, business, labour and infrastructure analyses, regional economic models, GIS-based monitoring software, public budgeting tools and the necessary process guidance. Several of the projects we have worked on are cross-border co-operation projects (or CBC projects) involving border regions in two or more countries.
In a global context
Today half of the world’s population lives in urban areas, which brings new challenges and opportunities. In response, COWI offers high-level services in urban and regional development that
cover regional planning, community upgrading and urban management. COWI takes a multidisciplinary approach to assignments in urban and regional development, and our staff covers a wide range of expertise.
Assistance in urbanisation
We provide capacity-building services to national and local governments to manage urban growth, to strengthen planning and service provision, and to address issues of welfare, health and social and economic development. We assist in urban governance, planning, housing, industrial and commercial development, slum upgrading, community participation, enterprise and market development and urban infrastructure.
An array of expertise
Our experts cover public and municipal administration, economics and finance, environmental management, sociology, agriculture, industry, legislation, training and education, in addition to engineering and urban planning. We work to upgrade urban, social and environmental infrastructures and services, management governance and administration in South, East and Central Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South and Central America.
