Labour market

The labour market and its institutions face many challenges - in Denmark and elsewhere. Some can be met through labour market monitoring and employment policies.

Global challenges

Labour markets and policies face a number of major challenges in the years ahead. The demographic characteristics of labour markets are changing: there is a slow decline in the labour supply and an increase in average age; globalisation and technological developments are causing the number of labour-intensive jobs to fall, while the demand for knowledge workers is increasing.

Challenges in Denmark

In addition the regional and municipal reform in Denmark is putting a great deal of pressure on labour market institutions, e.g. all unemployed have only one common entry point. This implies close coordination of employability actions and social sector activities, and binding cooperation between state actions and municipal actions.

Monitoring and co-operation

A well-functioning labour market requires close monitoring of both regional and local labour markets, as well as continuous knowledge-sharing and cooperation among all relevant stakeholders. COWI has extensive experience in assisting labour market stakeholders to increase their knowledge about labour market developments and the impact of employment policies. We have also assisted in the development and implementation of concrete monitoring tools and collaboration models.
