Regional development

Many countries are paying attention to regional development and regional development plans. COWI has a long tradition for providing assistance in this field.
COWI assists authorities in the preparation of regional development plans. Our assistance encompasses the entire plan development process, including quantitative and qualitative analyses, business, labour and infrastructure analyses, regional economic models, GIS-based monitoring software, public budgeting tools and the necessary process guidance.

Keeping stability

The focus on regional development is to some extent due to economic development, including globalisation, which sets new limits for the development of a region. However, it is also due to the considerable inequality among the regions of a country, which may represent a serious threat to the stability of that country (or region).

Geographical coverage

COWI works on regional development both in and outside the EU. In the EU we have especially experience from Denmark, Baltic Sea Region and new EU Member States. Outside the EU we have experience from the Balkan, CIS and South-East Asia. Several of the projects are so-called cross-border co-operation projects (or CBC projects) involving border regions in two or more countries.
