Cable supported bridges
The first cable supported bridge was designed by COWI back in the 1950s. Today we are typically involved in more than 20 cable supported bridges around the world every year.
Among our projects are the Stonecutters cable stayed bridge, the Sutong cable stayed bridge, the Great Belt suspension bridge and the Øresund cable stayed bridge. Our latest achievement is the record-breaking Messina bridge in Italy.
Multidisciplinary bridge design
The planning and construction of bridges require the close cooperation of a large number of technical disciplines.
COWI has all the necessary specialists, including durability, wind, earthquake, soil-structure interaction, risk management, ship collision, structural monitoring, construction techniques etc.
Major fixed links and long causeway projects in particular are highly multidisciplinary and cover input from traffic and environmental planning to financial and operational aspects.
