Integrated bridge design and analysis

COWI has over the last decade developed and implemented a state-of-the art integrated bridge design and analysis system - IBDAS.

IBDAS facilitates the generation of design documentation, drawings and written documents and ensures a quick, flexible correct processing of project material. Originally developed for bridges, IBDAS now also contains special features for e.g. tunnels and offshore wind mill foundations.

Track Record

IBDAS has been applied for the detailed design of some of the world's largest bridges, including Great Belt Suspension Bridge, Øresund Cable Stayed Bridge, Stonecutters Cable Stayed Bridge and also for the design of a large number of highway bridges.

Key Features

IBDAS is based on 3D logical and parametric solid modelling comprising:

  • parametric modelling
  • common database for analysis and drawing production
  • integration with alignment and profile of highway projects
  • advanced analysis facilities
  • construction stage analysis, incl. geometry and stress check during construction
  • design verification according to international design codes
  • built in experience gained from international small and large scale bridge projects

Advanced Analysis

IBDAS has a large number of static and dynamic analysis procedures:

  • geometric non-linear analysis
  • plastic analysis
  • seismic response spectrum analysis
  • time-history analysis
  • buffeting wind analysis
  • comfort analysis for e.g. high speed railways
  • buckling analysis
  • float stability analysis
  • optimization
  • reliability analysis
