Management of project risk

Developers and promoters of projects - especially build-operate-transfer projects (BOT) - are exposed to a large variety of risks. Project risks include development risks, construction risks, operational risks, financial risks and revenue risks.

Risk policy and acceptance criteria

COWI can offer to establish consistent risk acceptance criteria for construction and operation of infrastructure systems in compliance with international standards and traditions.

The process involves formulation of safety goals, including screening for potential risks and selection of the main types of risk of concern.

Risk analysis

Staff, experienced from complex infrastructure projects in urban areas, can also provide analysis of risks and consequences.

A preliminary identification and qualitative screening and classification of the risks is used to select the main risks to be examined and evaluated through systematic quantitative and semi-quantitative risk analysis

The services may comprise special studies of structural reliability including analysis of risks and effects of ship collision, wind, flooding, waves and current and material deterioration under various environmental influences. This experience is utilised to obtain safe and durable designs.

Risk mitigation

If the risk acceptance criteria are not initially met, risk mitigation measures are identified and their risk reducing effects are assessed.
