Bulk terminals 

COWI has extensive experience in the study and design of bulk terminals. We provide integrated services from planning stage to detailed design and construction supervision.

Handling of bulk

Like other berths and port terminals, the study and design of bulk terminals rely on general marine and geotechnical engineering and special expertise in the systems for handling of bulk. The latter is normally tailored to the actual type of bulk material to be loaded or unloaded at the terminal.

COWI has in-house expertise in marine engineering and handling systems.

Quays, berths and jetty structures

Bulk handling terminals can be made at long quays like general cargo or container berths or at jetty structures for example on piles with concrete deck, i.e. quite similar to the ones used for oil and gas terminals.

We work together with our clients to develop optimum solutions meets the specific requirements for each project and combine function and durability.

Design

The design process requires knowledge of the site specific requirements associated with the specific type of bulk material to be handled and the various types of handling systems, ranging from traditional grab handling to various types of conveyor belts to systems using pipes for pumping of the material in question.
