People can take a virtual train ride along the Light Rail Transit that may one day run parallel with Copenhagen's M3.

The virtual train-ride on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) stops at the Danish towns of Lyngby, Gladsaxe, Herlev and Glostrup, but the project may involve many more stations if the LRT becomes a reality.
"The primary goal of the 3D model was to give politicians and local people the opportunity to visualise how the LRT would look with trains running. The model also demonstrates how the rest of the traffic would run and how the track would be tailored to fit into the existing conurbation," explains Leif Jørgensen, the COWI Project Manager responsible for this project.
The traffic in the 3D model is based on simulations in the VISSIM program and illustrates the projected calculations for traffic volume in years to come. The model also contains hypothetical timetables for the LRT and buses, along with regulatory elements such as traffic lights and right of way signs etc. All of the traffic runs as it would in the real world and includes cyclists, buses and cars too.
The traffic model has been inserted into a 3D model that is based on aerial photos and a laser scanned heightmodel. Other details – such as building facades – have been added, based on photographs taken in the field. This has made the model easily recognisable for decision makers and residents, who can view the LRT from the air as well as the ground.
Last year, Copenhagen County sent this virtual LRT trip on a travelling exhibition to the districts involved, and local people were invited to watch the trip unravel on a flat screen TV. The trip can still be taken via Copenhagen County's website.
Copenhagen County is currently discussing the LRT and other urban development opportunities with the relevant local authorities. The County and the Ministry of Traffic are also examining ways to finance the project.
