Services within climate change

We offer a whole series of consultancy services in this area.
When it comes to matters concerning climate change, COWI assembles cross-functional teams in order to offer broad and professionally very sound advice based on customer needs and requirements.

The Kyoto Protocol

Internationally, Denmark is leading the way when it comes to implementing the Kyoto Protocol. COWI assists governments in Denmark and abroad in determining which solutions are necessary to fulfil the complicated requirements of the international agreements that are being made.

For example, we have created an economic model for the Danish Ministry of the Environment for evaluating the consequences of establishing various trade systems for exchanging CO2 quotas between countries on a global basis.

COWI is also in a number of countries supporting the building of a legislative and statutory structure that will support the effective implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.

Reducing energy consumption

Initiatives that reduce the consumption of energy in industry, electricity production and housing are vital. COWI has considerable experience in all of these fields - both in Denmark and abroad.

COWI is one of the leading consultancy companies within regional and local planning and the establishment of energy supply systems. We are particularly competent in this field, offering everything from strategic planning to the physical implementation.

Natural habitats

COWI's biologists and engineers can determine which natural habitats are likely to be the most vulnerable to climate changes. We can also suggest the best way to cope with such changes. Prioritisation, strategic planning and decision support are key words when working with customers to formulate the content and objectives of specific tasks.

Digital altitude model

COWI has a digital altitude model of all of Denmark, enabling us to calculate and illustrate which areas are likely to be flooded on a short-term or long-term basis.

New civil engineering projects

In connection with major civil engineering projects, COWI calculates all risks connected to the entire construction lifecycle - including climate change.

The analysis includes roads, coastal bridges, tunnels, breakwaters and dykes. We evaluate the likelihood of various events occurring and their effect on construction, people and the environment. The analysis also includes potential breakdowns and operational drawbacks.
