We have more than 30 years experience in developing sustainable and cost-effective solutions for the handling, treatment and disposal of waste, including waste-to-energy solutions. Globally, more than 200 staff are permanently working with waste issues and waste-related projects including waste planning, policy and regulation, waste-to-energy, biomass solutions, remediation of old dumps and polluted sites, business planning/development, public private partnerships, capacity building, communication, community engagement, data and IT solutions. We draw on our many years of experience in the field of waste management, and our consulting services cover the whole range from planning and analyses over design, tenders and supervision to optimization of operations. Training, capacity building and financial/economic analysis are important aspects in many projects. In addition to the management of typical domestic and commercial waste stream, COWI has particular experience in the management of Health Care Risk Waste, Pesticides, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), waste tyres, hazardous chemicals etc.
Our technology experience covers advanced receptacle and collection systems, sorting facilities, various types of waste-to-energy systems, biological treatment systems and sanitary landfill design.
Our more advanced project activities include, among others, the complete process engineering of bio-ethanol facilities, and development of repository options and preliminary design for radioactive waste from dismantled nuclear test reactors.
Whenever required, the work is carried out in multidisciplinary project groups consisting of engineers, institutional experts, economists, chemists, biologists, sociologists, geologists, hydro-geologists, communication specialists and environmental lawyers.
