Two COWI bridges shortlisted at The Structural Awards

Inner Harbour Bridge, Denmark and Destructor Bridge, UK shortlisted in the UK's most prestigious structural engineering awards ceremony.

02.08.2017

The Structural Awards in UK are held each year to celebrate the role of structural engineers as innovative, creative design professionals, and to showcase the world's cutting edge engineering projects.

2017 sees The Structural Awards celebrate 50 years of recognising the indispensable contribution structural engineers make to the built environment - from large awe-inspiring landmark structures to small local projects. Winning an award is a symbol of excellence that is recognised around the world. We are delighted that two COWI UK projects have been shortlisted.

Inderhavnsbroen (Inner Harbour Bridge) in Copenhagen, Denmark, is shortlisted in the Pedestrian Bridges category, which awards excellence in the design of pedestrian and/or cycle bridges, or other lightweight bridge structures.

Destructor Bridge in Bath, UK, is shortlisted in the Award for Vehicle Bridges, which recognises excellence in the design of bridges carrying highways and/or railways.

The new judging process for 2017 saw a panel of eminent judges independently looking at and awarding points to all entries. The highest scoring entries were then evaluated by a 'sitting judging panel' which established the shortlist. After ensuring no conflict of interest exists between a judge and any shortlisted project, the final panel will select the category winners.

The judges based their decisions on the structural engineering excellence of the project; the creativity, innvovation, elegance and detailing within the structural design, alongside the sustainable techniques and technologies incorportated and of course, the value of the project - both in terms of economic viability and value for money in the structural solution, as well as non-financial indicators of value.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London in November, and we will keep you posted with how our projects get on!
