Elliott Bay Seawall wins two Excellence in Concrete Awards

2017 Washington Aggregates & Concrete Association's Excellence in Concrete Award Winners Announced.

Seattle's Elliott Bay Seawall project recently won two awards at the 2017 Excellence in Concrete Awards in Washington, in the categories of Public Works – Infrastructure and Sustainable Merit.

The $210M seawall project made extensive use of unique modular precast concrete components, which significantly helped speed up construction time, reduced project costs, and minimized impacts to adjacent properties and businesses during construction. The new seawall features precast custom designed face panels, habitat shelves, superstructure segments and precast light penetrating sidewalk panels to promote and improve marine habitat underneath the 3,500 foot structure.

The new seawall will not only protect Seattle from storm damage and shoreline erosion, but also seismic activity. The new seawall is supported on jet grout-improved cellular soil mass to mitigate soil liquefaction should an earthquake hit.

COWI North America served as the lead structural design consultant on a team led by Parsons Corp, and we are incredibly proud this project has been recognized in these two categories.
