COWI moves up the ENR ladder with new record-breaking bridge

This year's prestigious ENR Global Sourcebook rankings are out and COWI takes an impressive third place within bridges. The world’s largest suspension bridge, the 1915 Canakkale Bridge in Turkey, recently entered the order book.

COWI has been awarded the contract for the detailed design of a record-breaking suspension bridge across the Dardenelles Strait near Canakkale in western Turkey.

COWI is carrying out the detailed design for the EPC contractor Joint Venture DLSY consisting of Daelim (Korea), Limak (Turkey), SK E&C (Korea) and Yapi Merkezi (Turkey).

With a span of 2023m, the 1915 Canakkale Bridge will have the longest span of any suspension bridge in the world, surpassing the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge in Japan, the current record holder at 1,991m.

Moving up the ladder

The award of the contract cements COWI's position as the global leader in the design of long span suspension bridges and paves the way to an impressive top 3 position within bridges in the ENR Global Sourcebook, an annual publication that compiles and publishes rankings of the largest construction and design firms, measured by international gross revenues.

Other ENR strongholds

The 1915 Canakkale Bridge is scheduled to open for traffic in 2023 on the 100 year anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Turkey. It will form part of a new highway network linking Europe and Asia.
