In his TED Talk, published today, COWI Consultant Ian Firth discusses the evolution of bridges and the value they bring to the world.
Ian argued that bridges must be functional, safe and serviceable; but they must also be beautiful.
If we go on building mediocre, ugly environments it's something like a large scale vandalism, which is completely unacceptable.
A former Director of COWI and President of the Institution of Structural Engineers, Ian has been responsible for several world famous projects and led the engineering design of bridges such as Copenhagen's Inner Harbour Bridge, London's Bridge of Aspiration and the Swansea Sail Footbridge.
