The ‘World’s best apartment building’ is going up on Krøyers Plads between Nyhavn, the Opera House and the canals of Christianshavn in Copenhagen. This title was won by the client, NCC Bolig, at the international real estate fair MIPIM in 2015, and COWI was consultant to the project.

The exclusive complex occupies three new buildings totalling 20,000 m2 and contains some 105 owner-occupied apartments with views over Nyhavn and the Royal Danish Playhouse, plus shops, cafés etc. on the ground floor.

The buildings are surrounded by 300-year-old warehouses, and the architecture has been adapted to this setting, but it is also modern to meet today’s expectations for style and functionality.

The buildings are characterised by their folded roof lines, made up of steel elements up to three floors high and finished with light steel boxes and skylights. Krøyers Plads is also the setting for Denmark’s first Nordic Swan-certified apartments, which means a better indoor climate and lower energy consumption.

Car parks have been established beneath the whole complex.
