Östermalm Food Market is undergoing a total renovation

Merchants have been selling food and raw ingredients at Östermalm Food Market to the residents of Stockholm since 1888. Stockholmers and visitors from near and far have been inspired by the selection and the setting. After 125 years, the food hall needed total renovation and the client, City of Stockholm, chose Construction Management as its execution model.

The covered food market is a protected historic building of the highest conservation class, which places high demands on the renovation and preservation of its original character.
Östermalm Food Market will regain its original star shape in accordance with the floor plans from 1888 and the building will reopen in 2018.

The building will be environmentally certified in accordance with BREEAM. The project is part of the city’s Vision 2030 for a world-class Stockholm and the work of improving the whole area around Östermalm Hall and adjoining streets and squares. The city aims to develop Östermalm Food Market into one of the world’s foremost markets for food and gastronomic experiences. COWI Projektbyrån’s assignment encompasses a complete execution organisation for the renovation and expansion of Östermalm Food Market, with management responsibility.
